Registration is now open for our Texas APME convention in San Angelo Oct. 15-17.

We’ve lined up a weekend of fun, food, fellowship, education and awards presentations for journalists across Texas.

Panels will include:

— Texas state demographer Lloyd Potter, who’ll talk about the 2020 census results

— Politics 2022 with Texas political reporters and UT-Tyler pollster Mark Owens

— Expanding diversity in coverage with top Texas editors and reporters

— Navigating college and high school sports coverage in the time of NIL, conference shakeups and COVID

— Freedom of Information issues in Texas with FOI lawyer Joe Larsen

— The AP report from Will Causey, regional editor.

The $250 registration fee pays for our costs to put on the convention, with the rest going to the Texas APME’s Buster Haas minority internship and scholarship program.

The weekend will start on Friday night, when we’ll gather at Fort Concho for a campfire cookout. Saturday morning panels will be at the San Angelo Convention Center next door to our convention hotel, the Red Lion. Our first awards luncheon will be at noon at the famous Miss Hattie’s Restaurant downtown. Our big awards presentation and silent and live auction presentations will be held Saturday evening at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts overlooking the Concho River. We’ll wrap up with more panels on Sunday morning and a final awards presentation that will include the Headliners Star of Star awards.
